There is nothing new about worry lines, frown lines, crows feet or wrinkles caused by smiling, laughing or frowning. There is, however, a very effective way to treat them and make you look more youthful. You may well have noticed a number of people in the public eye who have noticeably fewer wrinkles and look far more youthful, thanks to Botox.
Jill Wyllie, Louise Beaton and Laura McGrath, our dentists who have each had additional training in facial aesthetics, offer wrinkle treatment in our Practices by gently injecting minute amounts of Botulinum Toxin into specific facial muscles. It relaxes those muscles and stops them forming lines and wrinkles, resulting in a more youthful and pleasing appearance. Botulinum toxin treatment is virtually painless. It is not a permanent remedy, however, so periodic re-treatments are needed to achieve long lasting results.
After treatment, Botulinum Toxin will not radically change your appearance. You can still frown and look surprised, just without the wrinkles and creases between your brows. Botulinum Toxin works by temporarily reducing the contractions of the muscles that cause those persistent frown lines that develop over time.
Jill, Louise and Laura are getting amazing results! If you wish to find out more about this treatment, please call 0131 339 2992 to make a consultation appointment at with Jill at our East Craigs Dental Practice or if you would prefer to be seen at our St John’s Road Practice, please call 0131 334 2704 to make a consultation appointment with Laura or Louise. You do not need to register with us as a dental patient to have this treatment.
For the added convenience of patients, our St John’s Road Practice is open on Saturdays from 8.15 – 1.15 and 2.00 – 4.00. Emergency appointments are available on Saturday mornings for registered patients of both the St John’s Road Dental Practice and East Craigs Dental Practice. Three of our dentists also see patients for check-ups and all other types of treatment throughout the day on Saturdays.
If you are looking to improve your image, asking your dentist to whiten your teeth is a great place to start. Whitening your teeth can give you a more youthful and confident smile. We offer a gentle approach to bleaching as, in our opinion, this ensures the longest lasting whitening effect with the least sensitivity. We would caution against “power bleaching” and instant result methods since, of necessity, they involve very aggressive chemicals and tend to give a less satisfactory result.
Whitening can dramatically improve the appearance of your teeth to give you a fantastic new look. Please ask our receptionists to make you a Tooth Whitening Consultation Appointment. The £25 charge for the Consultation will be deducted from the overall whitening fee if you choose to proceed with the treatment.
For those people who would rather not see a dentist, but who are still looking to keep their teeth looking clean and fresh, you can now visit our Practice just to see our very experienced Hygienist, Dorothy Dzierzek, without seeing a dentist first. It costs £33 for an appointment with our hygienist – this includes both a professional clean and polish of your teeth as well as advice on the best toothpaste, brushes and other products available to help you look after your teeth and gums. If this is of interest, please just call one of our Practices and ask to Register as a patient of the Hygienist.
If you are looking to join a Practice that knows how best to look after younger patients, look no further. As parents ourselves, we take pride in making children of all ages (and their parents/carers) feel welcome in both our Practices. We know that children need to feel comfortable in our Practice – we have Duplo lego in our waiting rooms, comics/magazines to interest our younger patients, baby changing facilities in both Practices, stickers available at the end of appointments and best of all, very friendly staff!
Our Practice is also an NHS Childsmile Practice so we work with children and their families to provide dietary advice, toothbrushing demonstrations and special varnish to help protect teeth.
Throughout his career, Hew Mathewson (Senior Dentist within the Practice, GDC No: 47672) has been involved at a national level in the setting of the highest possible standards for prevention of cross infection in dental practices. Wherever possible, we favour single-use disposal items. For those items that cannot be disposed of, however, we were among the first dental practices to fully automate our cleaning and sterilisation of instruments.
Mouthguards are not just about helping to protect your teeth and lips. Their number one purpose and the reason they are compulsory for many professional sportsmen and women is the prevention of concussion. It is never too late to ensure you or your family have a properly fitting mouthguard.
Available from the Practice (from £35 for a child’s clear mouthguard), we can also make them in a variety of team colours. For growing children, however, we would always recommend a clear mouthguard as it is easier to see if developing teeth are causing the mouthguard to rub.
We can even add your name to your mouthguard, to help avoid it being lost!
